THE RUNDAMENTALIST
RUN CLUB
An idea I had in the summer of 2018, it took a couple of months to organise, but eventually we got there. That October I held the first ever run club session and it's gone from strength to strength.
I started with a 5-10K Intermediate group, operating in "seasons" which co-insides with each school term. As the run club has grown I now have two main groups, the Alphas and Inters. At the end of 2025 there has been 19 Seasons for the Alphas and 28 for the Inters.
In 2022 Matt and Simon became UK Athletics licenced coaches completeing their Run Leadership qualifications. Kat joined us as a Run Leader at the beginning of 2024. Helen, as long standing member since 2019, qualified as a UK Athletics Run Leader at the beginning of 2025. Therefore we have 4 qualified, insured and experienced Run Leaders to encourage, motivate and help our community improve and develope.

CLUB INFO
-
New for 2021 The 5k Bravo Programme (Couch to 5k) - This is the starting point, for beginners. We have recently completed our seventh Beginners 0-5K. Some of our members have started their running journey here, some have since progressed to the Alpha and Intermediate groups.
-
During the first lockdown I launched the 5k Bravo Programme (detailed description at the bottom of this link) in order to help and guide new runners remotely. This is a 9-week periodised programme, designed to encourage and motivate you to achieve your goals.

The next Beginners 0-5K course is TBC. To register your interest and receive updates click HERE
-
The Inters (5-10k Progression group) - For individuals that can comfortably run 5k in approximately 24-32 minutes (5:15-6:10 min/km). Here we aim to help improve your technique, use different types of training methods from intervals to hill sprint sessions, as well as increasing the distance on runs each week. This combination of training and running in a group will most likely help you become a more efficient and quicker runner. One current and previous Intermediate run club group runner started at a 33 minute 5k. Over the course of 6 months and with Matt's help he is consistently hitting 23 minute 5k's and under.
-
Alpha Group (4-6km) - For those that have recently completed a couch to 5k or done this distance previously. This course will help you become a more confident runner, looking at lowering your km/min and hopefully making you quicker over 5km. Average pace here is approximately 6:30-7:20 min/km
Lockdown 2.0 saw the launch of the Run Club virtual challenges!
These are still available to do at anytime. With Awards for running 50K and 100K in a calendar month.

Events
During 2020, the Rundamentalist Run Club organised two virtual charity 10k event weekends. The Cheshire Cheese Company and the Chilli Banana events raised over £5,000 for the Macclesfield Lions Club to donate to local charities.
Now, we continue our partnership with MLC in 2021 as two Rundamentalist Run Club members Matt and Tom completed their Macc to Manc charity run on the 19th March.
They ran 24.5 miles on the Bollin Valley Way, from Macclesfield to Partington, South Manchester. The pair set a new FKT (Fastest Known Time) for this route at 4 hours, 12 minutes and 50 secs. Their Lions Just Giving page generated £3,041 for Space4Autism in Macclesfield.
"We were bowled over by the kindness and generosity of our family and friends. Thank you".
The Pride of Lions 10km run/walk for the Christie, in partnership with the Cheshire Cheese Company and 6 local Lions Clubs raised over £5,000 for the Christie's new facility at Macclesfield Hospital.
Now, at the beginning of each calendar year, the run club members vote for the clubs Charity of the Year. 2024 it was Space 4 Autism and 2025 it was The Rossendale Trust. 2026 Will be confirmed in due course
