The #mrpt
rundamentalist Run Club

An idea I had in the summer of 2018, it took a couple of months to organise, but eventually we got there. That October I held the first ever run club session and it's gone from strength to strength.

I started with a 5-10k Intermediate group, operating in "seasons" which co-insides with each school term. I started the 7th season of run club in March, just before the whole Covid Lockdown struck. Since the return of run club training sessions in September 2020, and April 2021, it has been operating under government and guidelines from England UK Athletics.

Club Info

  • New for 2021 The 5k Bravo Programme (Couch to 5k) - This is the starting point, for beginners. We have recently completed our forth C25K and about to see the first lot of participants graduation from the Programme by the end of March 2021. Some of our members have started their running journey here, some have since progressed to the Alpha and Intermediate groups. Due to Covid restrictions I've launched the 5k Bravo Programme in order to help and guide new runners remotely. This is a 9 week periodised programme, designed to encourage and motivate you to achieve your goals. It also includes 120 minutes of individual 1-2-1 sessions, through WhatsApp video calling or distanced training sessions if local to Macclesfield. Currently I do not have an active in person C25K course, but if this is something you are interested in, please reach out and let me know. Because if I get enough people interested I will potentially organise one.

  • The Inters (5-10k Progression group) - For individuals that can comfortably run 5k in approximately 26-33 minutes (5:15-6:20 min/km). Here we aim to help improve your technique, use different types of training methods from intervals to hill sprint sessions, as well as increasing the distance on runs each week. This combination of training and running in a group will most likely help you become a more efficient and quicker runner. One current and previous Intermediate run club group runner started at a 33 minute 5k. Over the course of 6 months and with the help of Matthew Rigby he is consistently hitting 23 minute 5k's and under, and is in the Advanced runners group.

  • The Supers (formerly Advanced runners group) - For runners who are consistently achieving sub 26 minute 5k's and have completed 10k in under 53 minutes (4:25-5:15 min/km). Here the difficulty of runs become harder, sessions are slightly more intense as we work to improve on technique and become even quicker.

  • Alpha Group (4-6km) - For those that have recently completed a couch to 5k or have just done this distance. This course will help you become a more confident runner, looking at lowering your km/min and hopefully making you quicker over this distance. Average pace here is approximately 6:00-7:20 min/km

Rundamentalists rule, fact! #werunmacc

During 2020, the Rundamentalist Run Club organised two virtual charity 10k event weekends. The Cheshire Cheese Company and the Chilli Banana events raised over £5,000 for the Macclesfield Lions Club to donate to local charities.

Now, we continue our partnership with MLC in 2021 as two Rundamentalist Run Club members Matt and Tom completed their Macc to Manc charity run on the 19th March.

They ran 24.5 miles on the Bollin Valley Way, from Macclesfield to Partington, South Manchester. The pair set a new FKT (Fastest Known Time) for this route at 4 hours, 12 minutes and 50 secs. Their Lions Just Giving page generated £3,041 for Space4Autism in Macclesfield.

"We were bowled over by the kindness and generosity of our family and friends. Thank you".

The Pride of Lions 10km run/walk for the Christie, in partnership with the Cheshire Cheese Company and 6 local Lions Clubs raised over £5,000 for the Christie's new facility at Macclesfield Hospital
